The 10 finalists for the 2022 World Car of the Year are here. The organizers are also announcing the contenders for the World Electric Vehicle of the Year, World Green Energy SUV and Best Compact Utility Truck for 2021. All cars will have a special appearance at this year’s CES and will be exhibited at our headquarters in Shanghai from January 8 to 10.
We have made an editorial team, so a small selection of carmakers and manufacturers will make appearances at these events. Among them will be major automakers such as Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, BMW, Volkswagen and Hyundai. Here are ten electric vehicles that we can expect to see on show at the two exhibits, namely Tesla Model 3, TECNO X by Ford and Arrio EV by Nissan, which will go into production later this year.
Tesla Model 3 (US)
The most expensive model in the lineup is the most powerful one, with 483 horsepower and 649 pound-feet of torque. It has an estimated price of $115,000, but the company’s estimate is much higher than others, because it’s based on market tests. A variant called YSL, short form “Elon Musk”, which means “Made for Elon” in a nod to his name from SpaceX, features only 250 miles of range and goes zero to 60 in under 1 minute and a half. Another version, SLE, comes with just enough power to manage gas expenses. Both will be sold at full price in China in 2020.
TECNO X (France)
The all new compact utility for France and Spain, the TECNO X is a class-leading electric truck made entirely out of green materials. This electric van is built with a hybrid drive system between battery and motor, providing a 50 kW charge and 4.4 kWh energy yield. Its design, according to its creators, is inspired by traditional vans of the past, with modern components and advanced technologies. These three models will be assembled locally, and none of the three will be available abroad. While there is very little information about when they will start shipping outside Europe, we should know more soon.
Arrivee EV (Nissan)
The Arrio EV is a fully self-charging, high-performance EV capable of going up to 80% charge in 20 minutes. Arrio will be able to travel anywhere on its own and stop for gas only if needed. However, the EV is still limited by charge time and may not do well in traffic jams. Battery capacity is sufficient for around 20-22 miles, but the vehicle cannot be charged more than 90%. Despite the low charging speed and lack of AC, Arrio offers a top speed of 155 mph. The entire lineup will be available overseas in Japan, however the Arrio EV will be sold in other regions first.
Volkswagen ID.3 Pro (China)
The VW ID.3 (or I.D.3) is another electrification vehicle based on the same platform as the upcoming i3 hatchback. According to the official website, the “I.D.3 has been developed exclusively for Chinese markets, but already, in early 2021, we have begun sales in Asian countries, including Hong Kong, There are four versions, starting from the base model to a V5 kit version that gives you 16 kWh. Meanwhile, the V6 version adds 17 kWh of power.
Tesla Model 3 (US) | Autocar
Tesla says that the world’s best electric car is finally ready for the masses, meaning that all models will be manufactured in the US. And then there will be over 60 vehicles in line to compete for victory in this showcase of global prestige. But what type is it? We won’t be able to tell until the reveal of the vehicle this week, where we will find out all that the automaker has planned in-car tech. As usual, there will be plenty of surprises. But in addition to the main standard Tesla Model 3 models, we’ll also see four variants of smaller luxury options, like the R3 that opens up the front end. That is the third in the series, after the regular Model 3 and the F, followed by the E, P and Q.
